MATERIALS AND METHODS

Through the use of multiple data bases including but not limited to Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Global health, POPline, and PubMed we used to find cases to analyze . As well as nothing on purely direct effects of Ebola outbreak. All reports were assessed for potential bias. A total of 117 articles were read in full and 22 studies were included in the final review.

Information was grouped by outcome for analysis in three categories: reproductive, maternal and child health services . 
All of the cases were given a rating of quality: high, moderate, low and very low. 
The purpose of this lab is to review the West Africa Ebola outbreak, this is so due to the magnitude of the outbreak.

Direct health effects

 

  • Morbidity and mortality due to infection of Ebola virus

The affected population defined persons residing in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, or in Ebola affected areas of Nigeria, Sengal, and Mali.
Indirect Effects

 

Changes in health outcomes caused by West Africa EVD outbreak on the health systems such as 

  • Maternal morbidity and mortality 

  • Reduction in HIV-infected patients receiving antiretroviral treatment 

  • Increase in malaria cases due to termination of intermediate treatment programs

  • Fewer children being treated for diarrhea and acute respiratory infections 

  • Hospitial in-patient admittance and essencial surgery
